Your childhood favorite foil-wrapped treat made into your new favorite Ding Dong Pie!

"Ding

When I first saw this Twinkie Pie on my friend Amy’s blog, I knew instantly that I wanted to make a Ding Dong version.

Growing up, my parents never bought us twinkies, but on rare, special occasions, they would spoil us with the awesomeness of a chocolate Ding Dong. I still remember the excitement I would get when I would unwrap that tiny foiled package.

"Ding

I got to unwrap 10 of those luscious treats to make this sinful pie. My kids were practically drooling while they watched. They also kept asking over and over and over again if they could have one.

Seriously, what is with kids asking for the same thing over and over again? Like I’m going to magically change my mind after the 146th time they ask… nope! It’s just going to make me want to slowly unwrap said ding dong (in front of them), then savor each and every bite. I’m an awesome parent… btw.

"Ding

So back to this pie… I chopped up some ding dongs (in Canada they call them King Dons… not foolin’ anyone, Canada). I mixed the chocolate cake bits with a simple butter/egg/sugar mixture and placed it into a Pillsbury pie crust.

I’m not going to lie, when mixing, it looked awful. I crossed my fingers and popped it in the oven anyway. Sometimes it’s all about trial and error. Luckily, it was trial with no error. It’s delicious!

"Ding

In fact, the whole house smelled like a s’more! I think the chocolate cake mixed with the creamy ding dong filling in the flaky pie crust created a fantastic combination.

"Ding

Start unwrapping those ding dongs and bring back some childhood memories!
