These Lightened Up Soft Pretzels are a great way to indulge without all the guilt!

Walking through the mall it’s almost impossible to not stop and take in a giant whiff of soft warm pretzel. They are even better with a nice cup of warm Nacho Cheese sauce!

The only problem is that one of those pretzels have over 370 calories, and 4 grams of fat! Thanks to Laura’s request I thought I should tackle this Guilty Pleasure, and this is what I came up with…

Add the yeast to the warm water and stir until muddy, let it sit till it foams on top.

Pour into a standing mixer and add the sugar and salt. Slowly add the flour, one cup at a time until it’s all mixed in and no longer sticky. Place the dough on a floured counter top and roll out the dough with a rolling pin. Use a pizza or dough cutter to slice into strips.

Wrap the dough into the traditional pretzel form or into sticks, let your kids make their own shapes!

I sprayed my pretzels with Pam (butter flavor) to get a more crisp outside, then baked them at 425 degrees for 12-15 minutes, or until light brown. You can also sprinkle with coarse salt, garlic powder, chopped onion, or any other favorite spice or herb! I used garlic powder for mine.

These pretzels were very delicious! I had so many that I sent a batch over to my neighbor! I did attempt to make a cheese sauce, but I’m not going to give you the recipe… I didn’t really like it. hehe. But I saw that a great substitute would be the Velveeta Cheese Light!

These pretzels came out to only 94 calories and just 0.5 grams of fat!

Plus by adding the whole wheat flour I also punched up the grams fiber!

These are a great snack that you can enjoy any time of the day! Having my kids home for the summer, it was also a fun thing they could join in on! {They love to help me cook!}
